Dear Minister of Defence, Lieutenant Colonel Valerij Geletej
We the undersigned are writing this petition on behalf of the Brothers in Christ in Ukraine, also known as Christadelphians. Since 1991, the members of Carelinks Christadelphian Ministries have been baptizing people in Ukraine, and since then we have baptized around 250 people. Most of them are elderly now, but some are of military age. In many countries worldwide, we have a long and historically proven position regarding conscientious objection to bearing arms, and we would ask that your local military call-up officers extend sympathy to any of our members who come before them. We will be very happy to visit Ukraine to discuss our position with your representatives, and to confirm who are bona fide baptized members of our community. We have prayed for your nation of Ukraine in its present difficulties and will continue to do so. We believe that Biblical Christianity requires us to be proactive in care and devotion to our fellow citizens. Those baptized by us are not, therefore, seeking to escape from their responsibilities to their nation. We are happy and even eager to perform alternative service or serve our nation in any way that is appropriate, but we cannot take up weapons in order to harm our fellow man, even our enemies. Our local representatives in Eastern Europe are Duncan & Cindy Heaster and they will be delighted to provide any further information and to meet with your representatives.
